Training Description:

A Hazmat Industrial Technician is a professional who handles, transports, and disposes of hazardous materials following safety regulations. They are part of Hazmat teams and are responsible for managing, containing, and cleaning hazardous materials from spills and/or accidents. This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge to recognize a hazardous situation and the ability to initiate the emergency response sequence. This 40-hour HAZWOPER training program reviews the OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard for OSHA CFR 1910.120(e)(3)(i) and Title 8 CCR, Section 5192. This course is also intended to meet any HAZWOPER training requirements for the EPA.

Couse Details

  • Understand the purpose of OSHA and its role in regulating occupational safety.
  • The ability to identify and recognize the risks of hazardous substances in an emergency.
  • Identify basic emergency response procedures and personnel responsibilities.
  • Implement the employer’s emergency response plan.
  • Learn how to use the Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) to guide on-scene actions
  • Understand the use of Safety Data sheets (SDS) to identify and properly handle hazardous materials.
  • Learn the importance of personal protective equipment in limiting hazardous exposure.
  • Learn how to use monitoring equipment to determine the classification, identity and hazards of materials.
  • Describe the Incident Command System (ICS) and function in an assigned role
  • Select, use, and care for personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators
  • Learn how to perform control, containment, and plug/patch duties
  • Demonstrate understanding of decontamination and decontamination practices.
