24HR HAZWOPER Incident Commander

Training Description:

The Hazardous Materials Incident Commander is responsible for directing surveys of the incident, validating preliminary evaluation information, and controlling the risk. They identify hazard and response information from various sources and plan a response strategy. As threats evolve and the need for effective crisis management escalates, there is a growing demand for skilled individuals who can manage, coordinate, and lead during incidents and emergencies. This course trains you to assume control of an emergency response in a hazmat incident and focuses exclusively on management and hazmat response with fundamentals emphasizing on the duties and responsibilities of the emergency response personnel who will assume the role of the Incident Commander. This course meets OSHA requirements under 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(v) and Title 8 CCR, Section 5192 as well as National Incident Management System (NIMS).

Couse Details

  • Understanding the risks associated with a hazard.
  • The ability to identify and recognize the risks of hazardous substances in an emergency.
  • Develop additional leadership skills needed to run or oversee a safe, effective emergency response or Incident Command System (ICS)
  • Make an informed, accurate risk determination when a release occurs
  • Select, use, and care for personal protective equipment (PPE) used by managers and personnel during response
  • The ability to recognize the necessity for additional resources, and to make appropriate notifications to the communication center.
